2010 Harvest - The End
The 2010 harvest came to a close today as we pressed off our final lone fermenter of ZB Bien Nacido Vineyard Syrah. After a long, temperate Summer and warm early Fall, overall grape quality looks good for this vintage with deep color and concentrated flavors. The Pinot Noir vineyards we work with are typically harvested within a few weeks of each other but they were all harvested around the same time this year, which made for some long days and even longer nights in the cellar. As much as we love the organized chaos of harvest, we are very glad to see it finally come to an end. This years lots have been moved to choice French oak barrels for their winter slumber and we look forward to watching them evolve throughout their journey, long after they have been bottled.

The recent "What is your favorite variety?" poll did not have very surprising results. A whopping 76% of you preferred Pinot Noir, with Syrah coming in at a distant second garnering 17%. The poll may have been a little skewed since we have a devoted Pinot following and that certainly showed at The Covey Feast. Inventory proved that we have a lot of Pinot fans out there. It was poured 2 to 1 over everything else and our Stone Corral was poured 3 to 1 out of all of our other Pinots. Big surprise...

Welcome friends
After the slew of questions we have been receiving lately, it was apparent that we haven't been communicating current happenings to the best of our ability - so welcome to Kynsi's new blog!
We will all be contributing and topics will vary to include: vineyard practices, winemaking techniques, recipes, family stories and random thoughts. The goal is to give you a birds eye view and to answer some questions about life in the wine business. We encourage your comments, feedback and hope you enjoy.
